The Summer Behind Us...Time 4 School

Hi Friends!

With another Labor Day behind us, we thought it might be interesting to give you some back history on this national holiday. The US has celebrated Labor Day for more than 100 years. Dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers, Labor Day is a yearly tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. It's always held the first Monday in September, and while many school districts now start classes in August, the Labor Day long weekend is a definite indication that summer is pretty much done.

That’s right, friends. Now that the weekend is over, it means that summer is officially over and school is just around the corner.

To prepare for the inevitable ring of the school bell, check out our featured book of the month, BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT. Written by four real teens, BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT is the ultimate survival guide to freshman year of high school. It even includes humorous tips on what NOT to do, as well as funny freshman year horror stories.

How did you spend the long weekend?

Did you celebrate workers’ struggles by stuffing your face with hotdogs and playing by the pool? Leave us a comment letting us know how you spent your last official weekend of freedom!

And make sure to check out BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT! You can download a free chapter HERE.

Getting Through FRESHMAN YEAR of High School!

You may have heard the famous President Roosevelt quote: "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

Sure, Roosevelt was talking about a 1933 US bank crisis at the time, but I’m sure he would agree that his quote is equally applicable to your first year of high school. Basically, freshman year is scary because it is the total unknown, and of course you are full of questions. How are you going to assimilate to your new social kingdom? Get in good with teachers? Survive the lunchroom? Create a good excuse for handing homework in late? Or fake a sick day when you just need a day off?

A few blogs ago, we mentioned a new Zest book, BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT. Divided into Social, Academic, and Practical sections of advice, BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT provides the answers to those daunting freshman year questions. BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT also includes humorous tips on what NOT to do, as well as funny freshman year horror stories.

Remember: No matter how nervous you are to enter high school, the good news is that you will come out of it alive—and BEEN THERE, SURVIVED THAT can help.
